Former Patient Donates Sculpture to Saint Thomas Health

Nestled in the hills of DeKalb County, Tennessee is where William Kooienga and his wife Sharon make their home.  They live on 110 acres surrounded by nature and as far away from civilization as possible.   At the end of their half-mile long driveway is their log home built by William, his wife, and their two grown sons.

It’s quite the contrast from their previous life of living in Michigan.  William graduated with a degree in engineering, taught school for a few years and then gave it all up to move to Dowelltown, Tennessee where the population is just over 300 people.

William spends much of his day a short hike up in his studio.  He’s a wood and stone sculptor.  It’s his job and hobby all rolled into one.   His hand-crafted work is displayed inside and outside of his home.  He earns a living by creating sculptures for galleries and clients.   He also donates his work to the community including one hospital in particular.

Watch what William did for Saint Thomas DeKalb and Stones River Hospitals, a part of Ascension Tennessee, following the care he received after having an emergency appendectomy.   Nothing Shall Be Impossible.
